“You quite literally have as much talent as Woods. What you don’t have is the umpteen-thousand life-time hours of deliberate practice that he’s accumulated.”

A great article that builds on the notion of ‘deliberate practice’ versus natural talent, like Malcolm Gladwell’s ‘Outliers’ and the 10,000 Hour Rule. Deliberate practice ‘is about improving by pushing your practice beyond your comfort zone.’

The author firmly believes in the merit of deliberate practice (he even shares The 4 Laws of Deliberate Practice) over talent, and is often challenged on his belief during seminars, especially about Tiger and his natural gift for the game, to which he responds –

“[Tiger] did come into this world with an incredible gift: Earl Woods. Thanks in large part to his father, Woods had 19 years and, by my estimation, some 12,000 hours of deliberate practice under his belt by the time he won the Masters in 1997, at age 21.”

What You Can Achieve with 10,000 Hours of Golf Practice?

What You Can Achieve with 10,000 Hours of Golf Practice?

In his best selling book ‘Outliers,’ author Malcolm Gladwell argues that talent may be overrated, and becoming an expert/ success in your field requires 10,000 Hours of practice!

Assuming you practice #golf 6 times a week (#HamoniGolfCamp #Gurgaon is closed on Mondays!) –
– 10,000 hours over 5 years means 6.4 Hrs of practice per day
– 10,000 hours over 10 years means 3.2 Hrs of practice per day

Interestingly, American Dan McLaughlin, 34, decided in April 2010 to quit his job as a photographer and, with no prior experience in golf, dedicate 10,000 hours of practice to the game. Half way through, he now has a 4 handicap! Read the full article on BBC here – http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-26384712

Why every Golfer should care about The Open Championship 2015?

Why every Golfer should care about The Open Championship 2015?

The 144th Open Championship, the 3rd Major (Grand Slam in tennis lingo!) of the year, begins today #Thursday #16July15 at the Old Course, St Andrews Links in Scotland.

Why you should care as a golfer? –

– Because St Andrews Links, consisting of 7 publicly accessible golf courses including the Old Course, is considered the home of golf (if you didn’t know that, we don’t know what to say, but now that you do, congratulations, you’re a REAL golfer now)

Fact 1: Golf has been played at St Andrews Links for 600 years. In 1552 Archbishop Hamilton’s Charter recognised the right of the people of St Andrews to play golf at the Links (source: www.standrews.com)

– Because a trip to St Andrews is nothing short of a religious pilgrimage for a golfer, so worship it via television while you plan a trip (Heads Up: Tee bookings at St Andrews Links usually have a 1 year wait list)

Fact 2: More than 230,000 rounds of golf are played on the seven courses each year with around 45,000 being played on the Old Course alone (source: www.standrews.com)

– Because playing at the Old Course looks like you’re playing in The Shire from the Lord of the Rings, which is pretty cool to watch

– Because history may be made if  21 year old Texan, Jordan Spieth, wins a third Major in a row after clinching the 2015 Masters and US Open, and stays on course for a Calendar Slam (Serena Williams is on course for a similar feat in the Grand Slams after winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon this year, but Jordan Spieth is ONLY 21 years old with history already knocking on his door!)

– Because Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri is playing at the 144th Open Championship (Go India!)

– Because Tiger Woods is playing

– Because Tiger Woods is playing

– Because Tiger Woods is playing

Nuf’ said 🙂 Enjoy the golfing action from The Open Championship, and when you’re feeling pumped up and inspired, come hit the bays at Hamoni Golf Camp!

Cover

Hamoni Golf presents ‘My Passport to Golf’ – Our mission has always been to spread awareness for the game we love and to ensure that many learn the game and partake in its joy. This passport sized notebook is another effort in that direction, and it contains notes on the basics of golf, HGC golf learning modules, scorecards, note pages to record what you learn during your lessons at HGC and more!

Our Juniors Summer Camp students were the first to receive them as part of their course, and were thrilled! ‘My Passport to Golf’ will be provided during other learning camps and programmes and we hope everyone enjoys using it just as much as we have putting it together 🙂

Hamoni Golf’s ‘My Passport to Golf’ will also be available for SALE next week at the Hamoni Lodge; stay tuned for further details!
